Everyone is guilty of wanting more in their life than they already have, but why is it that only a few seem to reach their goals and dreams?
When you were young and had this unbelievable imagination, you knew that anything was possible. You could play sport for your favourite team or country, you could be a film or rock star, a doctor, pilot or even an astronaut. What happened, what changed?
Well, I’m going to let you know something really cool…it’s not too late! It’s time to stop wishing what you want or could be, and it’s time to start rethinking your goals, and start achieving them.
Too often in our lives, we put our goals on the back burner because something has come up, or we feel like we can’t do it, or we wonder what others will think. But now I’m going to give you 5 hacks to help you achieve the goals you set.
1. “THE WAY TO GET STARTED IS TO QUIT TALKING, AND START DOING” – Walt Disney
It’s great to set goals. Telling others about them will also keep you accountable, but at some point you have to start putting your words into action. Once you’ve set the vision, you have to start. It doesn’t have pe berfect! ;p
I want to be an author, coach, speaker and public figure. Someone who brings value to people. I kept on telling myself that was my goal and dream. Then my mentor told me that he was tired of hearing me talk about it all the time. He said, “you either are or you’re not, until you are actually doing it, whether you’re good or bad, you’re are just dreaming.”
The more you keep working on what you are trying to achieve, the better it will get over time. If you want to be a writer, start writing. If you want to lose weight, start exercising and eating better. If you want things to change, stop doing what you have always done. Basically, if you know what you want to do, just do it!
2. “SUCCESS OCCURS WHEN OPPORTUNITY MEETS PREPARATION” – Zig Ziglar
Achieving your goals is not going to be an easy task. You need to work on it every day. Whatever it is that you want to achieve, it has to be your focus. You can’t just wake up and go with the flow, and expect everything to fall into place. You need to have a plan and be prepared under any circumstance. I recommend keeping a journal, writing down all the things you want to achieve in your day, week, month and year. When you’re clear with what needs to be done every day, then you are prepared for mostly anything. If something comes up that does not reflect your goals, this planning will help prevent you from getting sidetracked.
3. REVIEW YOUR GOALS AT LEAST TWICE A DAY.
Life can really take over some days, and we lose track of what we are trying to accomplish. It’s great that you have got started, and even better that you have written it down and have a plan of attack. Unfortunately, we are human and things come up that bring us down. This is why I believe that reviewing your goals a couple of times a day helps you stay focused and on track. My hack for this is setting a reminder on my phone, with my goals. I see them and read them and believe them. As I use my laptop, iPad, and iPhone a lot, I have these reminders all the time. I also have a vision board that reflects my goals, this way I can visualise them more.
4. DON’T LET ANYONE OR ANYTHING STOP YOU FROM ACHIEVING YOUR GOALS.
One of the biggest reasons for people not starting, not achieving, or even giving up on their goals, is they listen to others. People will tell them that it’s too hard or it’s impossible, and that they should just be happy with what they’ve got. This is a dangerous place to be, because it is at this point where things in your life can change. You will either live a life of purpose and fulfilment, or you will live a life of regret. Unless the opinion of others can pay your bills, you shouldn’t listen to them. At first they will mock you, and ask “why are you doing this?” Then you’ll show them, and they will ask you how you did it!
5. WHATEVER YOUR GOAL IS, MAKE IT BIGGER.
Finally, I want you to reach for the moon, because if you miss it, at least you’ll land amongst the stars. No goal can be too big, so don’t be afraid to think big. You know deep down in your heart what you really want. Don’t bullshit yourself! If you know in your heart that you want something, and then a voice says you cant, that’s just fear. That instinct does not belong here! It belongs when we are faced with danger, like a tiger just about to pounce. The fight or flight fear that hits us in survival situations does not help us achieve our dreams.
So remember…
this isn’t a dress rehearsal, and there are no second chances. Set your goals, go big and regret nothing!
